The NPC has been asked by the National Union of Students In Europe (ESIB) to send our thoughts on the Bologna Declaration. In the near future ESIB will discsss our response along with a number of responses from countries in the EU.
The Bologna Declaration was signed by a number of countries including the UK in aims to standardise degree programmes so that qualifications would be transferable and allow students and graduates to have mobility to work anywhere in Europe.
While this principle may be useful, NPC expresses its concern that this may affect the standards of UK degrees including postgraduate qualifications. We therefore suggest ways of getting around this mainly by using a model similar to subject benchmarking.
